Per information released by Israel, a minimum of 98 detainees from Palestine have died during detention starting from October 2023. An advocacy organization based in Israel has stated that the true number is almost certainly substantially higher, as a result of hundreds of unaccounted for individuals originating in Gaza.

“Although we are providing evidence for a larger total of fatalities than previously reported, this is not a full picture,” he stated. “We are sure that there are still people who perished in custody that we have not identified.”

Non-Combatant Fatalities

Confidential official information shows that the largest portion of Palestinian prisoners from Gaza who lost their lives in detention were civilians, based on a parallel examination.

In May of this year, a military intelligence database tracking all fighters in Gaza, a list of over 47,000 listed people, documented only 21 casualties in custody. By that date, 65 Palestinians from Gaza had perished in jail.
