Her Royal Highness's Annual Festive Musical Celebration Honours Unsung Heroes

The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol concert at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will hear a blend of carols, music and readings from actors such as Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The central message of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own measured re-emergence to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Music and Opportunity

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to develop their musical skills.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for local food charities.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
